Jesus and the disciples passed by
escaping from the crowd that was seeking to stone
Jesus. As they passed by they saw a man blind from
birth sitting and begging. There was a brief
discussion as to the origin of this affliction. Was
this blindness from his sin or his parents' sin?
Jesus said it was so that the works of God might be
made manifest in him. He anointed the man's eyes
with clay and sent him to wash in the pool of
Siloam. The man was healed and returned seeing.
This event teaches us (1) that man's problem is
spiritual blindness. (2) this blindness is
caused by sin - personal as well as original sin.
Pride, lust, worldliness, all these things blind us
spiritually. (3) The origin of our problems is
unfathomable, but knowing the exact cause is not
necessary! God's power can be made manifest through
us as He heals us of all our problems. (4) When we
receive the Holy Spirit, he washes us and makes us
whole, recreating us inside as the man's eyes were
not only washed, they were healed! (5) Jesus came
for beggars and outcasts, weak and helpless. This
is His love and His grace, and He wishes to do this
for us. Go to the cross, and wash your sins in the
blood of Christ, receiving His love grace and the
power of the Holy Spirit
