ABI CODE OF PRACTICE
Before you purchase this insurance we are requested to bring to your attention a number of important aspects concerning the travel insurance on this web site.
Health
The Insurance contains conditions that relate to your health and that of others not necessarily travelling with you but upon whose well being the trip may depend
(such as a relative). In particular, pre existing medical problems are not covered unless the Medical Helpline is contacted on:
0844 826 2686 |
Policy Document
This contains the full details of what is and is not covered. Please read it carefully to ensure you understand the cover provided. Should you wish a specimen, a copy will be made available prior to purchase upon request. |
Conditions, Exclusions and Warranties
These limit or restrict the cover provided. Some apply to all sections of the insurance whilst others only apply to specific sections. |
Complaints
This Insurance contains a procedure which you should follow if you wish to make a complaint. |
Claims for Personal Baggage
This Insurance does not provide cover on a 'new for old' basis, which means that deductions for age, wear and tear will be made where appropriate. |
box empty |
Sums Insured or Limits
All sections of the Insurance have a limit on the amount the Insurer will pay. Some sections have internal limits such as the amount the Insurer will pay for any one item or the amount of all valuables (including photographic equipment) |
High Risk Activities
The Insurance may not cover you when you take part in certain activities not organised through Mike Coles Travel. You must check that the Insurance covers your requirements. |
Excesses
Under most sections of the Insurance, claims will be subject to an excess of £70. This means you will be responsible for paying part of the claim. |
"Cooling Off Period"
If the Insurance does not meet your requirements you may return the documentation within 14 days of the purchase or prior to travel if this is sooner and, provided no claim has been made, obtain a refund. |
Reasonable Care
You are required to take all reasonable care of yourself and your property and to act at all times as though you are not insured. |
Jurisdiction
The Insurance will be subject to English Law unless otherwise agreed. |

Frequently asked questions

Re - MANUAL WORK
Asked by someone travelling
abroad doing voluntary work with painting, ground level & low level
ladders.
Regarding your question re 'Non-Manual work' on page 25 of the policy.
Page 25 of the 2009 Policy booklet states that 'Non-Manual Work' is
covered. Clarification of this statement given by Anthony Kaye of
Campbell Irvine at 1720 hrs 13th January 2009
Quote 'Insurers deem manual work to constitute or consist of working
within your normal occupation duties for financial reward often
involving the use of specialist equipment. That you are doing volunteer
work outside of your normal occupation duties without use of specialist
equipment would constitute manual work and you are covered under the
standard terms of the policy.2.
2a Re - FOREIGN
OFFICE TRAVEL ADVICE
The following clause '2' is an extract from our
'Booking Information' information
details on our web site.
'There are times when it is very difficult for Travel Agents to advise a
client as to when and how safe it is to travel to foreign countries,
especially when a country is faced with a sudden disaster, terrorist
activity or a major health problem. There are occasions when some
Airlines will continue to fly, when others will not. We feel that simply
because an Airline chooses to continue flying to a destination, under
one of the above threats, this should not be taken as a guarantee that
the country is a safe destination. Our advice is to contact the TRAVEL
ADVICE UNIT attached to the FOREIGN OFFICE in London. They operate 24
hrs, 7 days a week. Telephone 0207 270 1500. and/or at
www.fco.gov.uk/
2b Re - COUNTRIES FCO
ADVISE AGAINST TRAVEL
'If an insured person elects to travel to or through a region where the
British FCO have advised against travel, then insurers would reserve the
right to decline any claim arising from the specific reasons given by
the FCO as to why they advise against travel to the specific region. All
other policy terms would remain in effect'.
To
be discussed further with the passenger before insurance is granted.
The Insurance certificate would
be endorsed accordingly.
